Because Mama's Meadow products are completely natural and free from synthetic stabilizers or texture-enhancing chemicals, you may notice that your salve or balm develops a grainy texture over time. This happens when natural butters (like shea or mango butter) cool at different rates, forming tiny crystals. While the texture may feel different, rest assured that the product is still completely safe and effective to use!

How to fix it:

If you prefer a smoother consistency, you can easily re-melt the balm using a double boiler (or placing the jar in a heat safe container in warm water.). Once fully melted, stir well and place it in the fridge to cool quickly and evenly. This helps prevent the grainy texture from reforming.

Since our products are made with real, unrefined ingredients, slight texture changes are normal and a sign that you are using something truly natural- without unnecessary additives.

Sometimes, when switching to a rich, occlusive product like Clara's Comfort, the skin needs time to adjust. Ingredients like shea butter, beeswax, and oils create a protective barrier, which can temporarily trap sweat or impurities as your skin adapts. This is especially common if your skin is not used to heavier balms. In most cases, these small bumps will clear up on their own as your skin balances and begins to fully absorb the nourishment. With my daughter, Clara, I noticed this lasted about 24 hours.

However, if the irritation worsens, becomes itchy, or doesn't improve after a few days, it could be a sign of sensitivity or an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients. If that happens, we recommend discontinuing use.

Clara's Comfort is an emollient that is a thicker balm with beeswax for added protection, while Calendula Calm is a lighter oil that absorbs faster. Both are great for irritated skin!

Tip: Add your favorite essential oils to Calendula Calm since this a perfect mixture of carrier oils. I like to add Roman Chamomile essential oil to mine now that Clara is 6 months old.
